Following campaigning from the Redbridge NEU to remove performance-related pay and ensure annual pay progression for all teachers including those on the upper pay spine, we are pleased to report that the Redbridge Local Authority has confirmed that pay progression on the upper pay scale will be annual and not biennial.

The pay increment for all teachers should be applied in November’s pay and will be back-dated to September 2025.

Main Pay Scale Teachers:

You will be moving up the pay scale, unless you are subject to capability. As performance-related pay is removed from the Redbridge Pay policy, you should not be required to submit evidence from your appraisal to progress.

Upper Pay Scale Teachers:

You will be moving up the pay scale (UPS1 to UPS2, and UPS2 to UPS3) unless you are subject to capability. As performance-related pay is removed from the Redbridge Pay policy, you should not be required to complete an application or submit evidence to progress.

M6 Teachers applying for threshold:

Pay progression to the upper pay range is not automatic and requires an application. Your headteacher should provide details of what the application entails.

If you are denied pay progression this year, please email redbridgebranch@neu.org.uk and we can support you to appeal this decision.

Teachers in Redbridge Academies:

As academies do not adopt the Redbridge Model Pay Policy, we would be happy to work with union members who want to challenge Performance-Related Pay in their school. Please contact redbridgebranch@neu.org.uk if you would like support to organize your school union group.
